Grima is a fantastic and great Tier 1 Commander, but he is not as Special as some of the iconic characters from the LOTR are, his skills and prowess as Support and Control on top of it do make him an interesting Commander. Grima is Tier 1 Commander in LOTR Rise To War and the first thing that you need to notice and acknowledge is his base trait which is “Support”. “Support” trait will give Grima +25 (Commander) Focus, +5 Skill points.

Grima’s highest stat is Focus and he has one of the highest base Focus points amongst lower-tier Commanders. Focus reduces the damage that his designated army receives during battle. Every time when your Commander levels up you will have a skill point to spend in their skill tree.

You can check our LOTR Rise To War Tier List to see how well Grima is performing against other commanders.

There are three main skills and thus three different focus points in Grima’s skill tree which we will talk about here. Note that each of these three main skills has two additional skills connected to them which you will unlock upon leveling the main skill to level 2. On Commander Respect level 1 you will have two starting main skills.

Grima is one of many Tier 1 commanders from evil side in LOTR Rise To War same as Sharku,Khamul, Agzok, Gorbag, Ugthak.

Best Grima Build

Respect level 0 Build

The first one of two starting main skills is “Wormtongue”. “Wormtongue” skill when active inflicts enemy Commander with Madness (attacks enemies and allies alike, Madness debuff is guaranteed) and debuff on an enemy that reduces their Focus by -50 for 1 round (at max level). This skill has 2 rounds of cooldown.

Additionally “Wormtongue” skill at max level gains the bonus of inflicting enemy target with -50 Might debuff. This is a very powerful skill against a single target enemy (ideally enemy Commander). Note that “Wormtongue” in LOTR Rise To War skill is referenced as a “title” rather than “skill” which essentially means once it’s unlocked and you have a skill point in it, it will act as a passive skill. As mentioned above upon leveling the “Wormtongue ” skill to level 2 you will unlock its two additional skills which you will be able to level up. These two skills are:

  • Master of Mischief: (Against 2 enemy targets) Inflicts Madness (attacks enemies and allies alike), Defence -amount for 1 round. This skill has 2 rounds of cooldown.
  • Enfeeble: Bonus +% damage dealt with all enemy units and Commander afflicted by Madness. This skill has 2 rounds cooldown as well.

Naturally effective stats % rise as you level up addressed skills.

The second main skill is “Second in Command” which will give Grima a bonus +amount of Focus points and +% of damage boost for all allied melee units during combat. Now this skill is equally important as the first main skill so ideally in the early game you want to max both main skills to get all of those debuffs on enemy Commander and units as well as damage and Focus boost.

Note that the “Second in Command” skill is referenced as a “title” rather than “skill” which essentially means once it’s unlocked and you have a skill point in it, it will act as a passive skill. Additionally, on max level of “Second in Command” skill, Grima will receive a bonus +15 Focus points. Two additional skills that you will unlock upon leveling “Second in Command” to level 2 are:

  • Discipline: Defence +amount for Grima’s army.
  • Anticipation: (Allied units with the lowest Defence) +% chance of avoiding all Damage from the next 4 attacks.
It is highly recommended to max these skills for bonus sustain.

Naturally effective stats % rise as you level up addressed skills.

Respect level 3 Build

Upon reaching Respect level 3 with Grima you will be able to unlock and level up his third main skill called “Survivor” which will reduce (allied units) Damage received by -amount from 5th round onwards. Note that “Survivor” skill is referenced as a “title” rather than “skill” which essentially means once it’s unlocked and you have a skill point in it, it will act as a passive skill.

Like every other main skill, these stats rise as you level up the skill. At the max level of “Survivor” skill, the effect will take place from around 4 onward. Two additional skills that you will unlock upon leveling “Survivor” to level 2 are:

  • Deftness: (Commander) Focus +% and (Commander) Speed +%
  • Prudence: (First 2 rounds) [All allied units] +% of avoiding Damage, Damage -%. While this skill is buff and debuff at the same time, it is still a great skill since your units will dodge attacks while still doing decent damage.
It is highly recommended to drop the “Second in Command” tree upon unlocking “Survivor” and spend points in this tree instead.

Naturally effective stats % rise as you level up addressed skills.

Respect level 5 Build

And finally upon reaching Respect level 5 with Grima you will be able to unlock and level up his fourth main skill called “Wizard’s assistant” which will boost Grima’s chances by +% of dealing an additional % of Poison. This is a decent skill but you should think about spending points in this tree depending on your situation and needs. Take it as an adjustment skill rather than a focus point in your optimal best build.

Like every other main skill, these stats rise as you level up the skill. At the max level of “Wizard’s assistant” skill Grima will receive additional +15 Focus points. Note that “Wizard’s assistant” skill is referenced as a “title” rather than “skill” which essentially means once it’s unlocked and you have a skill point in it, it will act as a passive skill. Two additional skills that you will unlock upon leveling “Wizard’s assistant” to level 2 are:

  • Outflank: (Against enemy ranged units) Damage dealt +%.
  • Lower Defences: (On hit) [Against enemy army] +% chance of receiving additional +% damage.

Naturally effective stats % rise as you level up addressed skills.
