Minecraft Blaze Guide, Attacks and Drops

Minecraft Blaze Guide

Minecraft has plentiful mobs, some of which are exclusive to certain areas. In terms of more dangerous mobs, Blaze is among the ones that can be the trickiest to deal with. Their ranged attack is potent and drops important, so we’ll dive deeper into Minecraft Blaze mobs.

Blaze

Blaze is a very unique mob that only spawns in nether fortresses in Minecraft. These mobs will be the main danger facing us when we explore nether fortresses and will deal quite a bit of damage. The biggest issue with Blaze is that it can spawn in groups of 2 or 3 easily, making it easier to get overwhelmed.

These mobs will fly when aggressive but stay on the ground or slowly descend when out of combat. That means we will have a harder time killing them when the fighting starts. Players can also see Blazes sink into lava or water when not in combat, even though the latter damages them. Once activated, they will ascend through either of these, exiting to the surface and flying into the air.

How to beat Blaze

Players will find it hard to reach Blaze, but these mobs are far from invincible. While we can use arrows to shoot them down, some alternatives exclusively work on them.

Snowballs or water splashes can damage Blaze from water bottles. Water bottles are extremely ineffective, but snowballs can come in handy. An even faster way to kill them is by using powder snow which deals more damage. But, of course, it’s harder to get them into this trap than hit Blaze with snowballs.

Blaze Attacks

Blaze can attack from quite far away in Minecraft, reaching as far as 48 blocks away. Combined with them flying, we can easily end up being locked out by even a single Blaze. They launch three fireballs which Blaze can only fire when it has a line of sight on the target. If it fires a few fireballs, but not all, Blaze will keep the rest of the volley for the situation where line of sight is re-established.

This can be used to avoid the whole volley. After the fire out of the last fireball, there will be a 5 second cooldown before another attack. The damage we suffer from these attacks will tick every second for 5 seconds and count as fire damage. That means a fire resistance potion can help.

However, these mobs will use a melee attack if they get into melee range. This melee attack deals 6 damage and doesn’t count as fire. Blaze will rarely perform this attack as the mob prefers to stay a few blocks away from the player.

Blaze Rod Drops

Minecraft Blaze Rod Drops

As with every rarer mob, the drops they offer can be quite important. For example, with Blaze, we get access to blaze rods which are only obtainable from these mobs.

Blaze rods are used as fuel for both brewing and smelting in Minecraft. They are also required to craft the eye of ender, allowing players to open the portal to the End. It’s a rather important material which figures considering how dangerous Blazes can be.

Each Blaze has a 50% chance of dropping a single blaze rod. We can improve the number of drops and their chance with the Looting enchantment. This will increase the potential drop of blaze rods, maxing out at 4. This will make stacking them up far easier.
