Minecraft Drowned Guide, Attacks and Drops

Minecraft Drowned Guide

The underwater biomes of Minecraft aren’t void of danger. On the contrary, they have their own dangers comparable to those on land. Among these dangers is Drowned, a mob that can make our ocean exploration far more stressful. So let’s dig deep into Minecraft Drowned mobs.

Drowned

Zombies are the most common mob in most biomes in Minecraft. However, they will only bother us on land. Any underwater biome will have a variant of the zombie mob haunting us and posing a constant danger. This being Drowned.

The Drowned mobs are commonly present in the water biomes in Minecraft, especially those that can get quite dark. Their overall role is similar to that of a zombie, with some changes in capabilities. They are more dangerous than zombies as underwater areas have different physics than land.

Water imposes the use of a swimming speed instead of a walking speed. Additionally, it stops us from jumping, replacing jumps with swimming upwards. These changes are enough to cause problems for players who aren’t used to underwater combat. However, it’s something that we’ll get the hang of passively, with the changes still being impactful.

Zombie conversion

A zombie can change into Drowned in certain situations. For this to occur, the zombie has to submerge its head underwater for 30 seconds. The process will not work if its whole head isn’t inside the water or if the zombie is just standing in the water. After 30 seconds, the zombie will start conversion properly, which takes 15 seconds. A zombie turns into Drowned at the end of this timer, regaining all health even if it was previously damaged.

A mob called a Husk can undergo this conversion too. Husks will first turn into regular zombies after the standard process of being submerged for 30 seconds. Then, the zombie created from this process starts turning into a Drowned. Both conversions will heal the mob up to full health.

Drowned variations

As with some other mobs in Minecraft, Drowned can spawn with different held items. The standard Drowned will be without any available items, hitting the player the same way zombies do. However, these mobs can sometimes spawn with tridents. A Drowned with a trident is far more dangerous than a regular one due to the high damage it can do if its attack lands.

Drowned can also spawn with a fishing pole, which can be taken from them after killing the mob. This one doesn’t do any extra damage as the rod itself doesn’t affect the damage of the attacks. It’s great as a potential drop, though.

Lastly, a Drowned may spawn holding a nautilus shell. These items are used to make conduits, so finding a Drowned with them is desired. However, these are rarer than more standard Drowned mobs.

No Drowned mob can spawn with armor. They can only get armor by picking it up or if the zombie that got converted into Drowned had it. If they do pick something up, it is guaranteed to drop when the Drowned is killed.

Drowned Drops

Drowned can drop a few items in Minecraft. Among these, copper and rotten meat are the most common drops. In addition, if the target Drowned had a trident or any other variant item in hand, it too would drop. Keep this in mind because tridents are only obtainable from these Drowned.
