Magma Cube is an alternate version of the Slime mob. These have some added abilities and overall different spawns. With their unique nature, it can be quite a bit worse facing off against them. Knowing the proper techniques to handle Magma Cube is a key to winning encounters with them. So let’s overview Minecraft Magma Cube.
Magma Cube
Minecraft magma cube is a simple-looking mob composed of a single cube. This cube can vary in size, depending on the size of the magma cube itself. However, the recognizable features of its simple design remain no matter what size it manifests as. A magma cube will be fully black in color, with a set of yellow and orange eyes. This cube is easily recognizable by the way it looks and moves. Hard to miss it when it keeps hopping about, looking like a single block.
Magma Cube Behavior
A magma cube will try to find a player or an iron golem nearby. Once it does, it jumps high into the air and slams down on the target. This jump will damage anybody below, but it doesn’t affect the cube negatively. Magma Cube is immune to all types of fall damage and will not be injured even if it jumps off of high cliffs. This makes Magma Cubes immune to the jump damage they inflict as the height they can reach with these leaps would exceed safe distance often.
As can be deduced from their name, these mobs are immune to fire. Magma Cubes won’t be bothered by lava either, swimming upwards when it finds themselves in a pool of lava. This helps, as Magma Cubes have poor pathfinding for avoiding dangers. They will frequently jump off cliffs or fall into pools of lava so having immunity to both makes them survive longer.
Upon being killed, Magma Cube will split into smaller cubes. This is a trait it shares with Slime, and a unique danger to this specific mob. Taking down each of its spawned mobs being required to completely beat the mob. Otherwise, the smaller Magma Cubes could chase after us and cause issues.
Magma Cube Attacks
Magma Cube’s main way of attacking is by jumping onto the player in Minecraft. This will immediately deal a decent spike of damage when landing on a player. Worse yet, the Magma Cube continuously deals damage when coming in contact with other targets like the player. The longer this contact persists, the more damage we will accumulate.
This makes the Magma Cube capable of dealing some immense damage if we stay close to it, averaging 12 points of damage on normal difficulty. Their jump height, health, armor, and other characteristics will depend on the overall size of the cube, so the smaller ones should pose less issue until eventually being downed.
Magma Cube Drops
Large and medium Magma Cube drop magma cream when killed. An item that can be used for brewing potions or crafting. These Magma Cubes can drop up to 1 magma cream. However, the amount increases per level of Looting, which will increase the maxim up to 4.
A small Magma Cube doesn’t drop magma cream. Instead, it will drop only a single point of experience. Alternatively, if killed by a frog, it will drop froglight.
