Among many status effects in Minecraft, slow falling is another beneficial effect. Keep reading to know what this effect is and how you can get it.

What is Slow Falling Effect in Minecraft?

As the name shows, the slow falling status effect allows you to fall very slowly without taking any fall damage. In mountain biomes or while exploring caves, falling is common. Many players lose their lives and all their items due to sudden death.

In the Java edition, the speed of slow fall will remain the same at all levels. However, depending on how you get the slow-falling status effect, the duration will differ. You can always check your inventory to know how much time is left before the effect expires.

How Does Slow Falling Effect Work in Minecraft?

Slow falling makes the sudden or deliberate fall easy for you as you don’t get any damage. However, you will take the damage if you use an ender pearl.

This status effect not only saves you from sudden fall damage, but when combined with other status effects, it will let you win against the strongest mobs like Ender dragon.

In the normal state, you can jump 4 -5 blocks when you run, but with an active slow falling effect, you can jump 5-6 blocks. Though it’s not much, it’s worth mentioning.

How to Obtain Slow Falling Effect?

You can obtain a slow falling status effect by the following methods. The duration will be different for Java and Bedrock editions.

Potion of Flow falling

To make the potion get a blaze powder, 1 nether wart, 1 phantom membrane, and a water bottle. Place these items in a brewing stand, and you will have your potion of slow falling. It will give you a slow falling effect for 1 minute and 30 seconds. If you add Redstone dust to the potion, you will get the extended 4 minutes.

Splash Potion of Slow Falling

You get the splash potion of slow falling by adding gunpowder in the potion of slow falling.

The effect will last 1.30 – 4 minutes in the Java edition. When you throw the potion, everyone around you will get the effect.

Lingering Potion of Slow Falling

To make a lingering potion, add a dragon’s breath and get the effect for 0.22 seconds to 1 minute. Upon throwing the potion, it will create a cloud. Any mob or a player passing through that cloud will get the effect.

Arrow of Slow Falling

Use 8 arrows and a lingering potion of slow falling to get eight arrows of slow falling. When a player or the mob gets hit by these arrows, the effect will last from 0.11 to 0.30 seconds.
