How to Get the Curse of Sunken Sorrow in Sea of Thieves

If you’re a fan of the popular pirate-themed game, Sea of Thieves, you’re in for a treat! In this guide, we’ll take you through the step-by-step process of unlocking the enigmatic Curse of Sunken Sorrow. This curse, while not overly common, is a fantastic addition to your Sea of Thieves adventure and can realistically be unlocked within your first few hours of gameplay. So, let’s dive right into the world of the Sunken Kingdom and discover the secrets that await!

The recent update in Sea of Thieves introduced the Sunken Kingdom, a fascinating underwater area that boasts a total of nine new locations to explore. While three of these locations are treasuries, our focus will be on the six shrines, which hold the key to unlocking the Curse of Sunken Sorrow.

Each of the six shrines in the Sunken Kingdom contains five journals that shed light on the game’s lore. These journals, written by various characters like Duke, Umbra, Gnae, and Belle, offer intriguing insights into the Siren King and Queen.

To obtain the Curse of Sunken Sorrow, you must first complete Lorena’s Legend of the Sunken Kingdom Voyage. However, before you can purchase the voyage, you need to earn the Mysteries of the Sunken Kingdom Commendation, which requires you to read all 30 journals found in the shrines. But don’t worry, if you have a friend who has already completed the journals, they can purchase the voyage for you, and you can get the curse without having to find the journals yourself!

Finding Shrines and Their Hidden Journals

Finding Shrines and Their Hidden Journals

When searching for shrines on the Sea of Thieves map, look for the unique icons that represent them. Remember that treasuries don’t have journals, so focus on the shrines. Once you’re near a shrine, look for a glowing purple aura on the map. Park your ship nearby and dive straight down. The entrances to the shrines are usually adorned with glowing coral, making them relatively easy to locate.

As you explore the shrines, keep an eye out for the numbered journals. Typically, you can find them in order, but occasionally you may stumble upon them in a different sequence. Regardless, make sure to read each journal in its entirety and click the back button at the end to ensure it counts towards your progress.

Keep Track of Your Journal Progress

In Sea of Thieves, it’s easy to monitor your progress with the journals. Head over to your Reputations tab, and then navigate to the Bilge Rats and Sunken Kingdom sections. On the second page, you’ll find commendations marked with “Mystery of the Shrine of” and the shrine name. These commendations help you track how many journals you’ve found within each shrine and show your total journal progress.
