Minecraft Hoglin Guide, Attacks and Drops

Minecraft Hoglin Guide

Mobs in Minecraft act as a way to impair the player. Some more than others. Depending on their location, spawn, and statistics, we can find them quite problematic to fight. A mob that hits a middle ground between dangerous and simple is a Hoglin. They will be spread throughout the Nether, but we need to learn more about Minecraft Hoglin to take care of them.

Hoglin

Nether is a dangerous biome where we can find many of Minecraft’s most dangerous mobs. Hoglins being among them. These creatures look like boars with bristles going down its back. There are plentiful dangers they can pose, and even a single one can run us down if we are careless.

Hoglins aren’t the strongest mobs in the Nether, far from it, but it has their own dangers as a mob. The Hoglin come in adult and baby forms. While baby ones are far less dangerous, they can still cause issues. However, running into multiple no matter their age, will make it hard to escape.

Unfortunately for us, Hoglin herds aren’t a rarity. They can spawn in groups of 3 to 4, respawning some time after being slain. Furthermore, they do not require a specific light level to spawn, and any level will do.

Hoglin Attacks

An adult Hoglin will charge at the player, after which they’ll try to hit us with a decent reach. With that reach in mind, Hoglins can usually get a bit more range on their initial attack. Hitting the player will deal 2.5 to 5 damage. Additionally, the adult Hoglin knocks the player into the air. Should this knock us high enough, it can cause extra damage.

Baby Hoglins are far less dangerous. They deal only 0.5 damage, with no knock-up involved. Adults will pose more of an issue as babies flee if we attack them properly. We can get a lot easier fights if we scare the babies away, which will help us avoid being swarmed.

Hoglin Behavior

Hoglins will be deterred from attacking in a couple of situations in Minecraft. These mobs will make sure to avoid the player in a few situations. Warped fungi and nether portals will make Hoglins run back if within 7 blocks of these things. Respawn anchor is yet another item that will make Hoglins afraid of approaching. Using these items against them is smart, as even a warped fungi flower pot will work.

If you want to get Hoglins killed quickly, use fire because they are vulnerable. This vulnerability can be exploited with lava or any form of fire we have on hand. Baiting them into certain traps is also a powerful tactic to employ.

They will attack the player once they come 16 blocks within the Hoglin. The shields won’t help us much either, so avoiding them is the best idea. Should a single Hoglin be provoked, all of them will attack that mob.

Hoglin Drops

A few raw pork chops will drop from a killed Hoglin in Minecraft. They range between 2 to 4 in drops, scaling all the way up to 7 with the Looting enchantment. A great way to stock up on food.

It’s also possible to farm leather from Hoglins. They are a less potent loot as Hoglins can drop either 0 or 1 leather. Going up to the potential of 4 with Looting at max level.

Other than that, we can also expect some experience, 5 from adults or 1 to 3 from babies, when slaying a Hoglin. With them spawning in herds, we can get a chunk of experience with each herd.
