Minecraft Zombie Guide

Minecraft Zombie Guide

When it comes to mobs, we can usually separate them by frequency. Players will note the most common ones more often than the rarer ones. Among these, Zombies are the most common. Having them spawn around consistently results in frequent combats with them. Let’s see how they fight and what behavior a Minecraft Zombie has.

Zombie

Another simple mob among the bunch, Zombie, has been with the Minecraft from the start. These mobs were the initial melee issue the player would need to face off against. A lot of their behavior is quite simple, but the recognition of Zombie as a mob can’t be disputed.

Zombies are dressed as the player character, with their clothes being mostly tattered. Their skin is fully green with no hair though. The color of their shirt also helps with spotting them in the wild.

Zombie Behavior

A Zombie will stick around an area in Minecraft, looking for enemies to attack. The area they will search for isn’t too big. Very few mobs are as common as Zombie, so this search range doesn’t matter. Considering how many Zombies will be spread throughout the Overworld, it should be easy enough to achieve.

This mob counts as undead. That means every downside and upside of the type applies. These include being damaged by daylight and seeking refuge from it if possible. Zombie also gets healed from Instant Damage effects and healed by Instant Health effects. Poison and Regeneration effects also do not affect the undead.

Zombie Variants

Whether in a desert or underwater, Zombies will be switched out by their variants. Both locations may still contain a few zombies, but even these will soon convert to variants.

The desert will have Husks instead of Zombies. The Husk is a mob that shares a lot of behavior with the Zombie, with a few key differences. The first one is that Husks aren’t damaged by daylight, unlike regular Zombies. Attacks from Husks inflict Hunger status, which will cause a lot of damage to our food meter, although it does not affect us directly. Lastly, this variant will attack wandering travelers more frequently.

When underwater, Zombies undergo a transformation. They need to be fully submerged for 30 seconds before standing to change. After this time passes, they fully convert into Drowned. The Drowned mob itself has two variants. The regular one has fewer differences than the Zombie, but its trident variant does. Trident Drowned are far more dangerous than any similar Zombie version due to its potent damage. They can drop this item if we kill them.

Zombie Attacks

A Minecraft zombie has quite a simple attack most of the time. Lifting its hands up and bringing them down for 3 damage on normal setting. However, this changes when they pick up an item. Geared zombies can be more dangerous due to increased stats and damage.

Zombie Drops

With each Zombie killed, we have a chance to receive quite a few items. The first being rotten flesh. A Zombie drops 0 to 2 rotten flesh upon dying, going up to 5 with Looting maxed out.

Iron ingot, carrot, and potato can also drop from a Zombie. These items have a 2.5% chance of occurring, which goes up to 5.5% at max Looting. Of course, each item has different drop chances too.

Equipment that Zombie has been spawned with or has picked up can also drop. The picked-up equipment drops 100% of the time, while the drop chance of armor they spawned with is 8.5%. That chance increases to 11.5% with Looting at level 3.
