As we descend into more dangerous biomes of Minecraft, we will start engaging with mobs that possess powerful attacks. The potency of these mobs can make them tough to play around and beat. Ghast being among them, with the additional air of eerie sound design to spice things up. To beat a Ghast, we should learn more about them, which is what we will do in the Minecraft Ghast mob overview.
Ghast
Ghast is a large mob flying through the nether in Minecraft. They are dangerous creatures that will make our stay in the nether much more troublesome. With them flying around, we will have to look out whenever we explore the place. In addition, they are spread about the place, patrolling the area, which will make them a consistent hassle.
The Ghast is a powerful foe as it throws out fireballs while flying. This mob will deal intense damage if it hits us. Avoiding Ghasts is suggested as their altitude can make it tough to reach with weapons.
Ghast Attacks
There are certain dangers to specific attacks in Minecraft. With Ghasts, the danger comes from their fireball attack. The impact of this attack deals 6 damage. With the following explosion dealing 9 damage to the player, damage falls off if with proximity. That means even running slightly away will help us survive Ghasts longer.
Fireballs count as separate entities, so keep it in mind for certain interactions. Their entity can also damage blocks, so do be careful not to get your cover destroyed.
A Ghast will not attempt to approach players. They will instead stay where they were activated, shooting fireballs. Ghasts will damage themselves should they fire in close range of the player. This means closing the distance can help us fight the Ghasts.
Ghast Behavior
Adding onto the attacks, behavior also plays a role in avoiding or facing a Ghast. These mobs will make sounds when 80 blocks away from the player. As Ghasts make crying noises, the sound can help players identify the presence of a Ghast before facing them. Once Ghasts are within line of sight, they fire off their fireball attack.
Following the fireball attack, there will be 3 seconds cooldown before a new attack. Any solid blocks block these fireballs, so it’s possible to avoid them by running cover to cover. As noted before, closing distance can help kill a Ghast with their explosions if you can survive them. However, the alternate option is dipping out of cover to shoot arrows and hide again.
Ghast Drops
A Ghast drops none or 1 ghast tear when slain in Minecraft. This drop increases with Looting, up to 4 ghast tears dropping at maximum level. We can craft regeneration potions or even end portals with the ghast tear.
Furthermore, a Ghast will drop gunpowder. The gunpowder is an overall useful item, and a Ghast will drop up to 2 gunpowder stacks. To increase the chance of dropping, we can also use Looting here.
Lastly, we get 5 experience for killing a Ghast. This isn’t too important but the other drops very much are. Especially considering ghast tear is an exclusive Ghast drop.
