Among the mobs, in Minecraft, the more dangerous ones will usually have spells of some sort. These spells can be used to toughen the fight, either inconveniencing the player through status effects or covering many areas in damaging fields. Among casters of Minecraft, Illusioner can be quite frustrating due to the way it behaves. Knowing is half the battle though, so let’s scan how to fight Minecraft Illusioner.
Illagers
Illagers are special mobs that can show up throughout the world. They are most common in raids and woodland mansions, but their patrols may occur in other places too. The illagers have quite a few variations, each of which is unique in stats and mechanics.
Of course, there are some standouts among them. Despite all illagers having roughly the same base model, that of a villager with gray skin, certain ones will mean more trouble than others. An Illusioner is one such mob. It both casts spells and uses a bow.
Illusioner
First, we should note that Illusioners in Minecraft are only present in the Java Edition of the game. Being unused in the Bedrock Edition. An Illusioner looks similar to a regular illager, with the key difference being their blue robes and a blue hat. What also makes them rather distinct is that these mobs will keep their hands crossed when idle or while not performing any attacks.
Illusioner is a rather fast mob, often being a hassle to catch. It will also cause quite an issue with both spells and arrow attacks. This combination can be even tougher to deal with if there are other mobs around, which will frequently be the case.
Illusioner Behavior
Illusioners can see through walls, that’s an important detail that makes them even more dangerous. While it cannot hit us with most of its attacks, it’ll still get a chance to act sooner than other mobs because of this.
Moreover, an Illusioner will maintain distance as long as it can. Unless the player runs away, that is, in which case Illusioner closes the distance so it can fire off its attacks. This makes Illusioners even more troublesome as neither advancing nor retreating will be an easy solution.
Illusioner Attacks
An Illusioner possesses a few attacks. However, its spells are the most problematic part of their kit, along with the quick movement mentioned before.
The first spell in Illusioner’s arsenal is a blinding spell. If the Illusioner manages to cast it, the player will be blinded for 20 seconds. Remember that any pets a player has can also be blinded, as the Illusioner casts this spell on the target the first time the two meet. It will be signaled by Illusioner raising its arms and then producing a black mist. Keep in mind that the same target cannot be subject to this effect multiple times in a row. The only way for Illusioner to cast it on the same target again is if it has previously switched to another target.
Illusioner can also use another spell. Namely, one that summons duplicates and turns them invisible. This combination will be quite distracting to just about any player. Making the Illusioner a bit of a puzzling fight once it casts its spells.
Other than that, this mob can also use its bow. It’s a simple and straightforward attack made far more effective through the use of the abilities mentioned above. The spells wear the player out while arrows kill them off.
Illusioner Drops
The Illusioner has between 8.5% to 11.5% chance, scales with Looting enhancement, to drop its equipment. This item will drop with random durability.
An Illusioner will also drop an ominous banner but only if it is a raid captain. Otherwise, it doesn’t drop any extra loot.
