Minecraft Pillager Guide, Attacks and Drops

Minecraft Pillager Guide

Certain factions within the game work together. Despite different mobs in the Illagers faction, they all work together between themselves. Pillagers are the most common Illagers tied to the faction. We will cover the Minecraft Pillager below.

Illager

Among the frequent mobs we’ll face off with, Illagers are decently common. Their variations allow them to offer a different fight every time we fight them. Illagers are a consistently problematic mob that will crop up at the worst of times. Also present in woodland mansions and in raids, these mobs can require quite a lot of fighting to get rid of.

Vindicators, Evokers, and, most noticeably, Pillager are all mobs we can encounter in this faction. This is because their presence being among the most frequent of all Illagers.

Pillager

Minecraft Pillagers are mobs capable of spawning in patrols. Usually, coming in numbers of one to five depending on difficulty. This is because having one of them being the patrol captain. These patrols can be quite dangerous, especially with an extra number of mobs being present.

Pillagers are fully aggressive. Aiming to eliminate the player as soon as they establish the line of sight. The Pillager will also attack iron golems and wandering traders. Villagers aren’t safe from Pillagers attacks either and will be targeted once within range.

Pillagers are quite slow, so catching up to them can be easy, and so can running away. However, their crossbow will allow them to take some shots despite their overall speed.

Pillager Attack

As mentioned above, Pillagers use a crossbow to attack. They will relocate quicker after shooting as they reload the crossbow. These mobs will track players even while the crossbow is unloaded, preparing to strike quickly. A shot from this crossbow deals 4 damage on normal difficulty while regular unarmed melee from a Pillager does 3 damage.

Pillagers may be forced to use this weaker melee attack. Their crossbows eventually break after shooting for a bit. This mechanic is completely intentional, helping players face off against the ranged oppression of Pillagers.

Pillager Drops

Drops are plentiful with Minecraft Pillagers. First are arrows which Pillagers can drop up to two or up to five depending on how many levels of Looting we have.

Seeing them with a crossbow means there will be an 8.5% chance of dropping the item. We can improve the chances of drops by 1%. Once our Looting reaches level 3, the chance will be 11.5%.

Lastly, in situations where the Pillager is spawned as a captain, they will drop the ominous banner. The banner is a guaranteed drop.

However, Bedrock Edition raids have Pillagers that drop a few other items. We will simply list them out as they are plentiful.

  • Emeralds
  • Enchanted Book
  • Iron Pickaxe
  • Iron Axe
  • Iron Shovel
  • Iron Sword
  • Iron Armor pieces

Bad Omen

If we get a banner from a patrol captain, we risk bringing bad omen to a nearby village. Should a player enter one such place, it’s possible to start a raid through bad omens. A raid will go on with Illagers trying to destroy the village in a few ways.
