Players in Minecraft are given ample access to potions which increase their capabilities. However, they aren’t the only ones who benefit from these powerful items. A Witch is a mob that gets access to them too. This makes said mobs dangerous to the player, which warrants an overview of the Minecraft Witch.
Witch
A Witch is a mob in Minecraft that can utilize quite a few effective tools in their arsenal that will make players face quite a bit of pain. The potions that they toss around and consume are their most unique feature, aside from their appearance, which is made complete with the classic pointed black hat.
These mobs can spawn in swamp huts, raids, or when lightning hits a villager. Each of them has the same stats and effects, but they definitely do not affect our situation the same way. Raids with these mobs will make for a quite more troublesome experience.
Because any villager can be turned into a Witch when lightning strikes them, pay extra attention during bad weather. It’s possible to get jumped by a Witch that is created in this way otherwise.
The swamp hut that a Witch has is going to be apparent. This hut will be noticeable from afar, and the Witch also spawns with a single cat along with the hut. It’s much easier to deal with a Witch while it’s in a hut due to the smaller size of the area, which disallows this mob from making enough distance to damage us considerably.
Witch Behavior
This mob counts neither as an illager nor a villager. They will not attack villagers or wandering traders but will still attack the player. This mob will chase after the player while using its potions to boost itself or deal damage. A Witch has an infinite number of them. These mobs can throw a splash potion of slowness, splash potion of poison, splash potion of weakness, and splash potion of harming.
Instead, the Witch can drink the potion. Drinking the potion slows it down for a bit. If the Witch is mostly underwater, it may use a potion of water breathing on itself. Preventing potential drowning.
Similarly so, if the Witch has taken damage from a fire recently, it will have a chance to drink the potion of fire resistance.
A damaged Witch may drink a potion of healing. By drinking this potion, it regains a bit of health.
Lastly, it can also use a potion of swiftness. It will have a chance to do so if far enough away.
A Witch will not be turned hostile towards mobs if damaged. This includes Evoker fang, illagers, or another witch’s potion.
Witch Attacks
The only damaging potion available to a Witch is the potion of harming. This potion will inflict 4 damage to the player on contact.
Witch Drops
If a Witch is killed while drinking a potion in Minecraft, there’s a chance a potion will drop. These potions include healing, fire resistance, swiftness, or water-breathing potions. The chance of this drop is 8.5% and is increased by 1% per level of Looting.
Witches have a ton of drops that draw from the same pool. The game rolls thrice to determine what will be dropped. Then, there is a chance of the Witch dropping up to two of those items.
The items included are sticks, glass bottles, glowstone dust, redstone dust, spider eyes, gunpowder, and sugar. These drops aren’t evenly spread with some having a higher chance of appearing. Looting increases the maximum number of items dropped by one for each of the drops.
