There are plentiful exceptional people in the land of Caladria, where Mount and Blade 2 Bannerlord takes place. All along the territories of this land, outstanding companions can be found. However, it can be hard to spot which one is the best for our purpose. So let’s check Mount and Blade 2 Bannerlord Best Companions and offer some answers.
Fighter Companions
Anybody can fight, and our armies will number quite a few heads as the game progresses. However, only so many are as competent at fighting as these companions in Bannerlord. So we’ll show off a few different fighters, some of whom may be using a different weapon or an entire approach to battle entirely.
Bloodaxe
A companion with the title of “Bloodaxe” is worth having in your army. These skilled warriors will come with the Two-Handed skill of approximately 200. It would be best if you placed them on the frontlines where these companions thrive. Slashing through foes with little effort and providing a potent wrecking ball unit for the army.
The “Bloodaxe” companions are among the simplest ones, fighting well with two-handed weapons but having scant other purposes. However, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t check the rest of their profile. Each one comes with randomly generated personality traits that can affect the behavior of a “Bloodaxe”.
Of the Wastes
Sometimes, a good ranged fighter in Bannerlord is the best way to get an advantage in a fight. Shooting down a couple of dangerous line-breaking units will make our army much safer. A companion with the “of the Wastes” suffix will make quick work of those.
You will have the most menacing ranged companion with a high Bow skill. Nobody is above “of the Wastes” companions in terms of bow skills. However, striking from afar is only one of their abilities. You are also getting access to a potent source of intel with this companion’s Scout skill.
The Brave
We’ve covered a melee companion, and a ranged one. Now it’s time to show off somebody who can ride alongside you. A rider worthy of leading the cavalry rather than merely partaking in it. One such example in our list is “the Brave”.
The name already shows off the audacity of this companion. Skills only go further in reinforcing them. If you choose to insert “the Brave” as a companion, rest assured they will provide both riding and polearm mastery across the board. Allowing them to strike safely while priming for charges.
If you have some extra riders on the side, send them with “the Brave”. This combination will make quick work of unprotected flanks and blast a hole in defenses. However, be wary of polearms yourself, or your companion’s ride may get cut short.
Leader and governor companions
Sometimes, we need tacticians and diplomats rather than steel itself in Bannerlord. We will find them plenty in the following segment. There are quite a few roles we require from more capable companions, which is why we’ll review a few different ones below.
The Falcon
As the first companion in the party leader role, we have The Falcon. Each powerful leader companion will need a few things. Among them is at least one skill that will positively affect your army. Then, by providing an army with stronger abilities or enhancing overall deployment, “The Falcon” will make for a great leader.
Of course, as with every other companion on this list, there is a key skill involved. “The Falcon” has high Tactics skill which makes them exceptional at being the leader of an army. With a high Tactics skill, you will be able to deploy more troops initially, with better reinforcements as well. This alone gives you an edge in a fight. Additionally, the skill allows us to escape battles while suffering fewer casualties, which is always welcome.
The Prince
Another potential option lies with “the Prince”. Do not let the name fool you, “the Prince” is a master of underhanded techniques and thievery. With an incredibly high skill in Roguery at 140, this companion is ready to take on just about any dirty job.
In Caladria, crime is for those willing to forsake quite a bit of honor in their run of the game. It will be quite a different experience, far more savage in nature. However, banditry has its benefits, and “the Prince will maximize them. Bribes, robbing, and sabotage are all parts of an arsenal. If the companion is ever caught, they’ll have higher chances of escaping.
The Swift
Sometimes you’ll just need a good governor or a companion decent at trading. After all, diplomacy and trade are the lifeblood of your faction. To achieve this, “the Swift” is a pretty good option.
With “the Swift” you’ll get quite a few skills that deal with social relationships. There’s no doubt they will come in handy, regardless of the nature of the conflict. If you want a well-managed province, “the Swift” will make for a great governor. Cutting down a lot of the busy work you’d otherwise have to bother with.
Overall best Companions
In the end, a certain companion will stand on top. Somebody capable of engaging in multiple parts of the game and truly worthy of acquiring no matter the run. Let’s see which one it is.
The Golden
While everybody excels at something, there are very few widely skilled companions in the game. Among them, “the Golden” reigns supreme in Bannerlord. Due to the high skills the companion has across many worthwhile traits, it has become a gold standard that lives up to its name.
If there’s any companion you should actively search out, it will be “the Golden”. It’s possible to place this companion anywhere without it losing potency. With Riding, Polearms, One-Handed, and Throwing skills being high on “the Golden” you’ll get the ultimate all-rounder in a fight.
However, this companion also has a Tactics skill that’s as high as “the Falcon” ‘s, which makes it a superior choice if you can acquire it. Bolstering the army with some extra bodies that could turn the battle in your favor.
