Kirun is an amazing defensive Commander in LOTR Rise To War that shines in forcing draw battles with minimal losses. Kirun is stacked with heal and defensive skills and can be used with proper tier 3 units and becomes a real monster with Mumakils because of their massive damage, HP, and defense, combined with Kirun’s defensive skills and heals will guarantee a favorable fight, in many cases straight up victories.
Kirun stats are great as well with great modifiers for Might and Focus and slightly below average stats for Speed. Kirun is Tier 3 Commander and the first thing that you need to notice and acknowledge is his base trait which is “Leader”. “Leader” trait will give Kirun +5 Command. Kirun’s highest stat is “Might ”. Might increase Physical damage dealt to enemy units and Commanders. Whenever your Commander levels up you will have a skill point to spend in their skill tree.
There are four main skills and thus four different focus points in Kirun’s skill tree which we will talk about here. Note that each of these four main skills has two additional skills connected to them which you will unlock upon leveling the main skill to level 2. On Commander Respect level 0 commander build you will have two starting main skills.
Before We start with a build, check out our guide on how to play LOTR Rise To War on PC which will give you a much better gaming experience and you will be able to enjoy in-game on big screens.
Respect level 0 Build
The first one of two starting main skills is “Lord of the Sand”. “Lord of the Sand” skill when active will give: (Each round) [Against 2 enemy targets] % chance of being Stunned. This is the first skill that you should max out, Stun is always a great option and huge advantage in fights because it renders enemy units immobile and unable to attack, giving your own army additional attack in the process, which ultimately means more damage as well.
This main skill should be your focal point in the early game. Note that the “Lord of the Sand” skill is referenced as a “title” rather than “skill” which essentially means once it’s unlocked and you have a skill point in it, it will act as a passive skill.
Additionally at max level of “Lord of the Sand” Stun will afflict all enemy units. As mentioned above upon leveling the “Lord of the Sand” skill to level 2 you will unlock its two additional skills which you will be able to level up.
These two skills are:
Sand Soldier: (1 allied unit) Recover % HP upon dealing damage.
Frontline Rescue: (Round 3) [allied melee units] Recover % HP.
This skill tree should be your focal point in the early game, we highly recommend maxing out both of these skills because you will mostly run melee units like Mumakils or Easterling cavalry units and another tier 3 cavalry unit.
Naturally, effect stats % rise as you level up addressed skills.
The second main skill is called “Easterling” which when active will give: (Commander) Normal attacks cause enemy stats -% for 1 round. This is a skill tree to focus on if your units need more damage mitigation and if you prefer debuffing enemy units as your fighting tactic.
You can combine it with “Lord of the Sand” if you don’t have Kirun at Respect level 3 yet so you have both heal and debuff skills at your disposal. Note that “Easterling” skill is referenced as a “title” rather than “skill” which essentially means once it’s unlocked and you have a skill point in it, it will act as a passive skill.
Like every other main skill, these stats rise as you level up the skill. At the max level of “Easterling” skill, Kirun will receive additional +15 Might points.
Two additional skills that you will unlock upon leveling “Easterling” to level 2 are:
Evil Alliance: (Evil Men and Orcs) Damage received -%.
Iron Guard: +% chance of reducing Physical damage received by %amount.
These skills are great for damage mitigation and especially to mitigate Physical damage that your Orc or Evil Men units might get hit with, it is recommended to put some skill points in the early game.
Naturally, effect stats % rise as you level up addressed skills.
Respect level 3 Build
Upon reaching Respect level 3 with Kirun you will be able to unlock and level up his third main skill called “Golden Visage” which when active will give: (Enemy ranged units) Can only cause minimal damage and Speed -amount. This is an excellent counter to Commanders who rely on ranged units like Haldir for example.
If you have Kirun at Respect level 3 and you are battling Commanders with ranged units as their main damage dealers, this skill will give Kirun a massive advantage in battle. There is no clear winner in terms of viability between this skill and “Easterling” because they both depend on your situation and what kind of armies are you facing, so choose based on that, For example, if you are facing Gandalf with full Eagle army than obviously, you want to spend points on “Easterling”, if you fight Haldir built around buffing ranged units.
Then you want to spend points on this skill. adapting to different builds and army compositions is a major part of this game. Note that “Golden Visage” skill is referenced as a “title” rather than “skill” which essentially means once it’s unlocked and you have a skill point in it, it will act as a passive skill. Like every other main skill, these stats rise as you level up the skill.
At the max level of the “Golden Visage” skill, enemy ranged units deal -5% damage, which is also a great debuffing bonus for enemy ranged units. In any case, you should put at least 2 skill points into this skill to assure debuff for enemy ranged units and to unlock an additional skill that is also very important.
Two additional skills that you will unlock upon leveling “Speardancer” to level 2 are:
Shield training: (Ranged units) Damage received -%.
Sandstorm: (Against 2 enemy targets) Randomly gain one of the following debuffs : Damage -% / Stunned for 1 round. This skill has 2 rounds of cooldown.
It is highly recommended to put a few points into “Sandstrom” to further debuff enemy units and both of these debuffs that have a chance to occur will give a huge advantage to your army, whichever debuff process it will be of great use.
Respect level 5 Build
And finally, upon reaching Respect level 5 with Kirun you will be able to unlock and level up his fourth main skill called “Marshal of the East-Mark” which gives :-(Melee units) % chance of reducing Damage received by %. Additionally, at max level of “Marshal of the East-Mark” skill, Kirun will receive a bonus +15 Focus points.
If you have Kirun at Respect level 5 then this skill is amazing to end your build with and spend the remaining points in it. In the current meta, it wouldn’t be a wrong move even to max this skill if you are running Dragoons or Mumakils with Kirun (which you should) because it will give them even more sustain and they will receive even less damage combined with all the debuffs and Dragoon’s special ability.
This skill has 2 rounds of cooldown. Note that the “Marshal of the East-Mark” skill is referenced as a “title” rather than “skill” which essentially means once it’s unlocked and you have a skill point in it, it will act as a passive skill. As mentioned above upon leveling the “Marshal of the East-Mark” skill to level 2 you will unlock its two additional skills which you will be able to level up.
These two skills are:
Tribal tactics: (Evil Men) % chance of attacking twice.
Quicksand: (Against 2 enemy targets) Damage received +% during combat, % chance of being Stunned each round.
Since you WANT to spend some points in “Marshal of the East-Mark” if not even maxing it out, you also want to spend some points into “Quicksand” for additional debuffs for enemy units, damage buff is not that important since Kirun isn’t really damage buffing Commander and does not run with high damage units (except Mumakils), but additional debuffs are indeed quite useful.
Naturally, effect stats % rise as you level up addressed skills.
