In LOTR Rise To War Ugluk is one of the best mid-tier Commanders especially with Season 2 changes now being in effect. Ugluk has a very high base stat for Might and a decent base stat for Speed and he is a powerhouse just like Lurtz.

Ugluk and  Lurtz share the same 3 skills, Respect level 3 skill being different and unique for Ugluk. With new changes that came with the launch of Season 2, some things that were impossible before are now favoring Ugluk massively, for example being able to recruit Ram Riders which are Dwarven units, but they are amazing for Ugluk to have in his army. Ugluk is considered to be amongst the strongest Uruk-hai in LotR lore.

Ugluk is Tier 2 Commander and the first thing that you need to notice and acknowledge is his base trait which is “Warrior”. “Warrior” trait will give Ugluk +25 (Commander) Might, +2 Skill points and 10% bonus (Commander) Physical damage. Ugluk’s highest stat is Might. Might increase Physical damage dealt to enemy units and Commanders. Whenever your Commander levels up you will have a skill point to spend in their skill tree.

There are four main skills and thus four different focus points in Ugluk’s skill tree which we will talk about here. Note that each of these four main skills has two additional skills connected to them which you will unlock upon leveling the main skill to level 2. On Commander Respect level 0 you will have two starting main skills.

Respect level 0 Build

The first one of two starting main skills is “Pursuer”. “Pursuer” skill when active will give:
– (Self) bonus % damage against all enemy units while attacking. Each time you level up this skill the total % of bonus damage will rise.

This should be your focus point in the early game and you should max both the main skill and its two connecting skills. At the max level of the “Pursuer” skill, the active bonus will be applied to “Pursuer” where damage bonus effects will get modified by Speed which is not that bad since Ugluk has a very decent Speed stat, where two additional skills connected to some of the main skills will play their role.

As mentioned above upon leveling the “Pursuer” skill to level 2 you will unlock its two additional skills which you will be able to level up. These two skills are:

Deepen Wounds : (Against 1 enemy target) Deals % of Physical damage and next damage received +% debuff (effect modified by Might stat). This skill has 2 rounds of cooldown.
Overwhelm : (Against the unit with the lowest defense) Deals % of Physical damage and an additional % of Physical damage after 1 round. This skill has 2 rounds cooldown as well.

It is highly recommended to max both of these skills, they are excellent bursting skills since Ugluk is purely a battle Commander.

Naturally, effect stats % rise as you level up addressed skills.

The second main skill is “Uruk-hai Elite” which when active will give: (Commander) Might +% and (Commander) Speed +%. You shouldn’t spend too many points on this skill unless you want to get some sustain for your Uruk-hai units that skills connected to this main skill will provide, or if you want to boost Might and Speed stats and their bonuses a bit more.

Note that the “Uruk-hai Elite” skill is referenced as a “title” rather than “skill” which essentially means once it’s unlocked and you have a skill point in it, it will act as a passive skill. Like every other main skill, these stats rise as you level up the skill.

At the max level of “Uruk-hai Elite” skill, Ugluk will also receive an additional +15 Speed points. Two additional skills that you will unlock upon leveling “Uruk-hai Elite” to level 2 are:

Uruk-hai Captain: (Uruk-hai) +% chance of healing/recovering % of HP points after dealing damage. This skill is decent since it is a good way to heal your Uruk-hai units without sacrificing damage.
Dangerous Trade: (Allied Units) Damage received +% and damage dealt +%. This skill is both debuff and buff for your units; it sacrifices some of your unit’s HP to do more damage. This skill works well with the “Uruk-hai Captain” skill.

Respect level 3 Build

Upon reaching Respect level 3 with Ugluk you will be able to unlock and level up his third main skill called “Outlaw”. “Outlaw” when active will give: (All Melee units) Damage +% but damage received +%. This is without question a skill tree that you want to max out as soon as you unlock it. It’s a great buff for your units and you shouldn’t ignore it, your units will sustain slightly more damage as well, but the difference is insignificant.

Upon unlocking this skill you should reset your skill points and max this skill first, and put the rest of the points into either of the first 2 skills because they are both viable in the mid/late-game together with this skill. Note that the “Outlaw” skill is referenced as a “title” rather than “skill” which essentially means once it’s unlocked and you have a skill point in it, it will act as a passive skill.

Like every other main skill, these stats rise as you level up the skill. At the max level of the “Outlaw” skill, Ugluk will receive +15 Might points. Two additional skills that you will unlock upon leveling “Outlaw” to level 2 are:

Brawler : (Commander) Damage against melee units +%.
Cripple : (Against 1 enemy target) Deals % Physical damage and greatly reduces speed for 2 rounds. This skill has 1 round cooldown.

You should max out “Brawler” and ideally put some points in “Cripple” since it is a decent bursting skill and you will apply Speed debuff on enemy units.

Naturally, effect stats % rise as you level up addressed skills.

Respect level 5 Build

And finally, upon reaching Respect level 5 with Ugluk you will be able to unlock and level up his fourth main skill called “The White Hand”  which when active will give: (While attacking) [Allied Uruk-hai units] Physical damage +% every round. This should be your late-game focus point along with “Outlaw”, having both of these skills maxed will give both Commander and your units a huge damage power spike.

Additionally, your units will gain some mitigation and sustain from the two skills connected to “The White Hand” which we will mention below. This is an excellent buff for your units and you shouldn’t ignore it. Like every other main skill, these stats rise as you level up the skill. At the max level of “The White Hand” skill, Ugluk will receive an additional +15 Speed points.

Note that “The White Hand” skill is referenced as a “title” rather than “skill” which essentially means once it’s unlocked and you have a skill point in it, it will act as a passive skill. Two additional skills that you will unlock upon leveling “The White Hand” to level 2 are:

Untiring: (Uruk-hai) Damage received -%, gain Stun immunity.
Arson: (Against 2 enemy targets) Deals % Burn damage twice, each separate attack chooses a different target. This skill has 2 rounds of cooldown.

It is highly recommended to put some points on both of these skills since they give both damage and defense for your Uruk-hai units.

Naturally, effect stats % rise as you level up addressed skills.
