Minecraft Stray Guide, Attacks and Drops

Minecraft Stray Guide

The variations of regular mobs can be seen in different climates and biomes of Minecraft. These will be similar in behavior to the mob they replace in the area but possess a few unique details. Stray is pretty common, covering cold climates in every generated word. So let’s explore the abilities and details of the Minecraft Stray.

Skeletons are frequent mobs that can be seen throughout the world. Along with Zombies and Creepers, they are the most common mobs to spawn. The simplest behavior of a Skeleton is looking after a target and trying to shoot them down. However, they are much better at navigating areas through their better pathfinding.

Stray

A Stray is a Skeleton variant in Minecraft. Often, this mob will replace most of the Skeletons in the area it spawns. These areas will be snowy places such as snowy plains, ice spikes, or frozen rivers. These Strays will also have a chance to spawn as jockeys. These mob types are mounted on spiders and some on chickens.

Stray Conversion

Strays can be made when a Skeleton finds itself inside powder snow for 7 seconds. When this time passes, the conversion is irreversible. They will properly turn into Strays after 15 seconds. This conversion also refills their health and transfers any equipment the original Skeleton had.

Stray Behavior

These mobs will act similarly to normal skeletons. That means walking around, traversing various complex surfaces, and sniping the player from further away. Additionally, these mobs will make noise with an echoing effect. Revealing their position to players is much easier than the Skeleton.

On top of that, Strays have a unique style of arrows. These tipped arrows allow them to inflict the Slowness status for 30 seconds on hit. Additionally, underwater Strays will use a melee attack instead of their bow. These attacks will inflict Slowness as well.

Stray Attacks

As with Minecraft Skeletons, Strays only has two attacks. The first is with their bow, which deals 3 to 5 damage on normal difficulty. However, it also inflicts Slowness, as mentioned before. The melee attack deals only 2 damage on normal difficulty and will be rarely used.

Stray Drops

The loot from a Stray is pretty similar to that of a Skeleton in Minecraft. Which means they drop bones, dropping up to two of them. Maxing out the Looting to level three will lead to a maximum of five bones.

Arrows are another common drop with similar chances to bones. Although, it isn’t the last loot that Stray will drop.

The Stray has a chance to drop an arrow of Slowness. This item has a 50% chance of dropping without any Looting levels. It will go up to 93.75% at the maximum level, which means it will become a near success.

Strays will drop off any equipment that they pick up. Dropping it at the same damage level as it was when picked up. This is guaranteed but what isn’t guaranteed is that they’ll drop the loot they spawn with.

Bows or any other equipment Strays spawn with have an 8.5% chance of dropping. This goes all the way up to 11.5% with a Looting level of 3. While not the greatest chance, it’s a decent amount of chance to drop good items.
