Certain biomes have more diverse and interesting mobs. We’ll be paired up with those opponents within these locations more often than usual, which means getting acquainted with the mobs encountered in said biomes. In the End area of Minecraft, we’ll have to deal with a specific mob named Shulker. They hide in their shells and come out only occasionally to spit out bullets. Lets’ see what else they can do and how to avoid the danger of Minecraft Shulker.
Shulker
The Shulker is an interesting mob in Minecraft with a unique appearance and behavior. Shulkers are found in the End with the most common spawn point being end cities. Therefore, there are ample encounters with them to be had as we explore this location.
These mobs are purple and look like purple blocks, with their most dangerous aspect being the ability to surprise the player. Damage can accumulate as we explore the End. With so many available corners for them to attack, we’ll have to learn how to deal with Shulkers.
Shulker Behavior
A Shulker will lay dormant for a decent length of time in Minecraft. Only coming out for a few seconds to look around. Then, as the Shulker comes out of the shell, it will shoot out a shulker bullet at nearby targets. This guided projectile moves across a single axis at a time and leaves a white particle effect behind them.
It’s possible to destroy or block this projectile as it comes toward us. This can be very good for preventing the problem. It’s also possible to get the Shulkers to attack each other, which will provide ample distraction for them while we can run.
Shullkers do not take burning damage, be it from lava or fire. Along with that, they can drown in water too. However, they will teleport when lava or water flows into their spot. Of course, unlike some mobs, they do not take damage from water directly.
Shulker Attack
With Shulkers, we know what to expect. They have a single attack. This being their shulker bullets. Those projectiles will follow the player . If it connects, 4 damage will be dealt to the player as well as being inflicted a Levitation status. This effect will last for 10 seconds. The effect will cause the target to float somewhat above ground.
While not an attack technically a Shulker can also teleport. Shulkers will do so randomly when below half health, having around 25% chance to teleport.
Shulker Drops
In Minecraft, A Shulker has a chance to drop an item unique to them. This item being shulker shells. While a regular Shulker drop rate is between 0 and 1 shell, this number can easily go up. Increasing up to 4 with Looting at level 3.
However, things are a bit different in Java Edition. The math is more specific, with a 50% drop chance for shulker shells without any stacks of Looting. If the player gets that enhancement, the chance increases by 6.25% for each stack, up to 68.75%.
Shullker shells can be used to craft shulker boxes. These boxes are an interesting alternative to transporting and storing items. Making them very useful when the players get further into the game.
