In LOTR Rise To War Gimli is a very good and interesting Commander in the high tier list of Commanders with above average stats for Might and Speed. Gimli is also one of the iconic characters from LotR lore and folklore amongst the Dwarven race.
Gimli is Tier 3 Commander and the first thing that you need to notice and acknowledge is his base trait which is “Warrior”. “Warrior“ trait will give Gimli +25 (Commander) Might, +2 Skill points and 10% bonus (Commander) .
Gimli’s highest stat is Might. Might increase Physical damage dealt to enemy units and Commander. Every time when your Commander levels up you will have a skill point to spend in their skill tree. There are four main skills and thus four different focus points in Gimli’s skill tree which we will talk about here. Note that each of these four main skills have two additional skills connected to them which you will unlock upon leveling main skill to level 2.
Respect level 0 Build
On Commander Respect level 0 you will have two starting main skills.
First one of two starting main skills is “Experienced Warrior”. “Experienced Warrior” skill when active will give:
– (Commander) +% Normal Attack damage. Additionally “Experienced Warrior” skill at max level gives Gimli Damage against melee units +10 buff. This is decent skill for extra damage and this main skill should be your focus point in the early game.
Note that “Experienced Warrior” skill is referenced as a “title” rather than “skill” which essentially means once it’s unlocked and you have a skill point in it, it will act as passive skill. This skill has 2 rounds of cooldown. As mentioned above upon leveling “Experienced Warrior” skill to level 2 you will unlock it’s two additional skills which you will be able to level up.
These two skills being :
– Hunt Down: (After the Commander attacks) [Against enemy target] Damage dealt +% (effect modified by Might stat) for 2 rounds up to 2 stacks.
– Collaboration: (Self) Normal attacks cause an additional % Physical damage.
This skill tree should be your focus point in early game, we highly recommend maxing out “Experienced Warrior” and “Collaboration”.
Naturally effective stats % rise as you level up addressed skills.
Second main skill is “Lockbearer” which will give following effect:
– (2 allied units) % chance of recovering % HP when sustaining damage. Now this skill is something you might bounce back and forth to since it doesn’t give burst buff which would actually be useful, spend points in it if you need more Sustain, Heal or Defence.
Note that “Lockbearer ” skill is referenced as a “title” rather than “skill” which essentially means once it’s unlocked and you have a skill point in it, it will act as passive skill. Additionally on max level of “Lockbearer ” skill, HP recovery will be modified by Focus stat.
Two additional skills that you will unlock upon leveling “Lock Bearer” to level 2 are:
– Friendly Relations: (Elves and Dwarves) Damage received
– Protect Elves: (Dwarf unit with the highest Defence) Protects all Elven units and defence +%.
Naturally effective stats % rise as you level up addressed skills.
Respect level 3 Build
Upon reaching Respect level 3 with Gimli you will be able to unlock and level up his third main skill called “Durin’s Blood” which when active will give:
– (Commander) Skill Damage +% during combat buff. This is a skill tree to focus on in mid game and you should max it out as soon as you unlock it.
Note that “Durin’s Blood” skill is referenced as a “title” rather than “skill” which essentially means once it’s unlocked and you have a skill point in it, it will act as passive skill. Like every other main skill, these stats rise as you level up the skill. At max level of “Durin’s Blood” skill, Gimli will receive additional + 15 Might points.
Two additional skills that you will unlock upon leveling “Durin’s Blood” to level 2 are:
– Whirlwind: (Against 2 enemy targets) Deals % Physical damage (prioritises Melee units). This skill has 2 rounds of cooldown.
– All-In: (Against 1 enemy target) Deals % Physical damage once (Self) reduces the next damage dealt by %. This skill has 3 rounds of cooldown.
It is highly recommended max out “Durin’s Blood”, if needed reset skill points if you put too many in “Lockbearer” and spend them in this main skill + “Whirlwind” and “All-In”, since these all are “skill” every single attack done by skills generally will do insane amounts of damage with “Durin’s Blood” boost.
Naturally effective stats % rise as you level up addressed skills.
Respect level 5 Build
And finally upon reaching Respect level 5 with Gimli you will be able to unlock and level up his fourth main skill called “Lord of the Glittering Caves” which will give:
– (Against enemy Melee units) Damage dealt. This should be your focus point for late game and should definitely be maxed out along with “Durin’s Blood”.
Like every other main skill, these stats rise as you level up the skill. At max level of “Lord of the Glittering Caves” skill, the army will receive buffs that will lower Damage received from Melee units by %. Note that “Lord of the Glittering Caves” skill is referenced as a “title” rather than “skill” which essentially means once it’s unlocked and you have a skill point in it, it will act as passive skill.
Two additional skills that you will unlock upon leveling “Lord of the Glittering Caves” to level 2 are:
– Break Defences: (Against 1 enemy target) Deals % Physical damage, Defence -% for 1 round. This skill has 1 round cooldown.
– Open Wound: (Against 1 enemy target) Deals % Physical damage, target cannot recover HP for 2 rounds. This skill has 3 rounds of cooldown.
Naturally effective stats % rise as you level up addressed skills.
