Minecraft Dark Forest Biome

Minecraft Dark Forest Biome

The dark forest biome stands as one of the most dangerous forest ones. They can spawn with standard trees, but the specific nature of their generation makes them quite different. The fun of going through them lies in this danger, though. So let’s explore what it is and what can be found in a dark forest biome.

Forest biome

Forest biomes are one of the most common, with many of them having a variation in actual trees that make up the woods. These are the first source of variety in any forest, with oak and birch trees being the biggest examples of it. The birch forests grow far thicker than the oak ones across the board. There are also flower forests that greatly differ from the others by being crowded with flowers.

Dark Forest

Among the forests in Minecraft, dark forests are especially peculiar. They are thick and dense, with their canopies blocking the daylight, making it possible for monsters to spawn around the darkened areas.

Usually, monsters only spawn during nighttime, but in these situations will twist that around. So our best bet is to lighten up the dangerous areas of pitch darkness or break through the canopy when possible.

Dark forests are filled with flowers, creatures, and extremely dense trees. However, the really unique locations within these forests are woodland mansions.

Woodland mansion

Woodland mansions are giant structures that loom in dark forests. They are extremely elaborate and systematically generated, with many dangerous mobs inside. These locations are filled with illager mobs and enough areas that are dim enough to allow other mobs to spawn.

Illagers are a focal point of this mansion and come in a few different forms. The two most common types we’ll encounter in this place are evokers and vindicators. Evokers cast spells that deal damage in a specific area, while vindicators get in melee to attack the player.

You should take time to explore the place, aside from the standard loot present, because of the totem of undying. This item can only drop from evokers, who are most common in woodland mansions.

Totem of Undying

A totem of undying is a useful item that has to be held in the off-hand or main-hand slot to activate. Once you get one and equip it, it’s possible to avoid death through its effect.

This item will put us back to half a heart, remove all existing effects, and give us health regeneration along with fire resistance. However, the effect will be bypassed with a few sources of damage. Among these, a tipped arrow with harming effect damage is the most common.

Dark forest mobs

Going back to the dark forest itself in Minecraft, the mobs that spawn within are quite regular. So despite the more common spawn rate of hostile creatures due to the higher amount of darkness, we will still see regular guys.

Spiders, zombies, skeletons, and creepers consistently spawn across our land. Slimes are also just as common.

In terms of rare spawns, enderman and witch are bound to spawn. However, with the darkness of the dark forest, we are likely to see more of them than usual. The lowest chance of spawning goes to spider jockey and chicken jockey. As small as it is, they will also benefit from more darkness being about to reinforce spawns.
