Sea of Thieves Kraken Guide

Sea of Thieves Kraken Guide

Ahoy there, fellow pirates. Sea of Thieves is a playground for all manner of daring escapades, whether you’re setting sail on your very first voyage or you’re a weathered captain who’s seen it all. One of the most heart-pounding encounters you can face out on the open ocean is the Kraken, a massive tentacled terror that can turn a calm cruise into a frantic fight for survival. In this guide, we’ll show you how to spot the Kraken, survive its onslaught, and claim the sweet loot that comes with victory.

How to Find Kraken in Sea of Thieves

How to Find Kraken in Sea of Thieves

The Kraken is a unique world event in Sea of Thieves that appears out of nowhere when there aren’t any other large-scale events happening. One minute you’re sailing the high seas, the next you’re practically swimming in ink. You’ll know it’s game on when the water around your ship darkens into an eerie black soup and the music ramps up.

Your ship will also slow to a crawl, which means you’ll have to be extra careful about maneuvering. Once you see those oily waves, brace yourself for one of the toughest fights in the game.

Kraken Attacks

The Kraken doesn’t just show up to wave hello. This beast has four distinct moves guaranteed to keep you busy.

  • Suction Attack You’ll see a windy indicator on your screen when the Kraken is about to vacuum you right into its mouth. If you get sucked up, it can deal massive damage or even send you to the Ferry of the Damned. To avoid becoming calamari chow, duck below deck or shoot the Kraken’s mouth with cannons or guns before it can pull you in.
  • Slap Attack Ever had your ship slapped around like a rubber duck? The Kraken’s tentacle can whip up and smack your vessel, tilting it at a wild angle and punching multiple holes in the hull. Keep an ear out for that booming slap, and get ready to patch holes in a hurry.
  • Wrap Attacks Sometimes the Kraken wraps a tentacle around your ship, completely halting your progress and dealing damage to both lower and mid decks. It also releases a poisonous vapor that can hurt anyone too close to that hungry limb. Target the tentacle’s head with your cannons to force it to let go. You’ll usually have a clear shot after the initial wrap.

Strategies for Defeating the Kraken

How many tentacles you need to dispatch depends on the size of your crew and vessel. On a sloop, you’ll have to eliminate two or three tentacles. Brigantine crews need to handle five or six, and galleon teams must take down seven or eight.

The best way to deal serious damage is by firing directly into the Kraken’s open mouth with your cannons. Just remember that each tentacle might require a different number of hits depending on your ship type, so keep blasting until those inky limbs retreat.

Rewards for Defeating the Kraken

Surviving the Kraken isn’t just about bragging rights. Each tentacle can drop a range of loot, including treasure chests, bounty skulls, mermaid gems, ritual skulls, and even tridents. There are some high-value items you won’t find on the Kraken’s menu, like Athena’s treasures or Siren hearts, but the drops are usually worth the battle scars.

Plus, bagging a successful Kraken hunt can unlock special commendations, titles, and other goodies that you can track in your reputation tab or browse in the shop.
